In Chioggia the Civil Wedding Ceremony is carried out at the beautiful Residence of Palazzo Poli (17th Century historical Palace, which gave hospitality to the famous Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni and the painter Rosalba Carriera in the 18th Century) in the heart of the Town. As alternative, on the bridal couple's request, the Ceremony can be carried out even at the Council Room (it can accomodate up to 60 people) of the Town of Chioggia (neo-classic building of Habsburg origin, facing the main road: Corso del Popolo)
In Venice the Civil Ceremony is carried out at the 15th Century Palazzo Cavalli. Privileged view for the Bride and the Groom as it overlooks the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge. The historical Palace gave hospitality to the American novelist Fenimore Cooper (1838). Its internal decorations (typical 18th Venetian style) belonged to the art scholar A. Ravà, who was the last private owner of the building.
In accordance with the State Laws, the Mayor or a Registrar (wearing a band representative of the colours of the Italian flag) perform the Ceremony in Italian, which is at once translated by an interpreter into the language of the married couple.
The Reading of the civil vows usually takes about 20/25 minutes.
The marriage is immediately and legally recognized in any country: a certificate is at once issued.

Symbol of Love and Romanticism, Venice is the perfect setting to celebrate your Ceremony or to renew your vows in a very personal and original way. A blessing or symbolic wedding does not require documentation and it has no legal effects. It addresses to those spouses who are already married, but want to reaffirm or renew their vows. I suggest this kind of ceremony for breathtaking surprises, commitments, declarations or to celebrate special Anniversaries as well. Symbolic Weddings can be performed in:
- Private Palace
- Private Garden
- Private Lido Beach
- Gondola on Grand Canal
and consist of personalized vows and exchange of rings. Even if without legal effects, a special Marriage Certificate is issued to treasure your Day in Your memory forverer.

The Sacrament of marriage is performed by the local Priest during the Holy Mass in one of the historical churches (incl. St. Mark's Basilica) in the heart of Venice.
I advice foreign citizens who wish to get married in a Catholic Church in Venice to get married first civilly in their country. In that case the bureaucratic paperwork is easier. It would be ideal to gather all the documents required for your wedding in Italy at least four or five months before. Besides the procedures taken for the civil ceremony, Spouses must present the following requirements as well:
-Certificate of partecipation in a marriage course provided by the Church
-Certificate of Babtism for wedding use
-Certificate of Confimation for wedding use
-Module of "Nulla Osta" authorized by the Bishop and the Priest of the Spouses' native Diocese. The document must state that there is no obstacle to the marriage and that the religious status consent them to get married abroad
All certificates are valid only for six months from their date of issue. I recommend to send them to me at least two months before the Wedding for their verification and validation.
Before the Wedding Day, once the Spouses are in Venice, I usually arrange an appointment with the Priest who will celebrate their union.
If you habe been divorced, you will not be allowed to marry again in a Catholic church, unless you get the annulment (recognized by the Church) of your previous marriage.
